What is An Accountant?
Did you know that anyone can call themselves an accountant?
They DO NOT need to have:
- Any accounting or tax experience
- Any accountancy qualification
- Belong to an accounting professional body
- Any professional indemnity insurance
- Passed any examinations
Of course in most cases an accountant will have some or all of the above and will be providing excellent services to their clients.
However like any business there are some sharks or cowboys out there.
We don't want anyone to suffer at the hands of someone holding themselves out to be an accountant when they are not.
This damages the reputation of all accountants and most are good!
What should be done to prevent this?
We believe that everyone should understand:
What is an Accountant?
This can be achieved by providing education on:
What is an Accountant.
We believe that it is the role of the Professional Accounting Bodies to provide this education.
Education to help the public understand what:
- the term means
- they should look for when they need the services of an accountant
- questions to ask to ensure that the accountants has the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to meet their needs
If you agree that there should be a Campaign to Educate on:
What is an Accountant.
Then please sign this petition.
Anyone can sign the petition - accountant or not!
